Facial Resurfacing: Introducing the SmartXide CO2 Laser

The big buzz in the dermatology and cosmetic surgery world!

SmartXide by Deka Lasers of Italy have now a CO2 fractional system with a super-fast scanner that can allow us to do a “Dot Resurfacing” of the whole face and neck in 20 minutes. The dot pattern, both in terms of power, spacing and duration can be tailored to your skin type and degree of damage.

It is ideal for reducing and reversing the changes from sun damage by destroying and “lifting” out abnormal pigment, as well as causing skin tightening from the thermal “insult” to dermal collagen and stimulating fibroblasts to produce more collagen and elastin to give a younger, fresher look to the skin.

The SMARTXIDE Deka CO2 Laser is an FDA-approved resurfacing laser that can dramatically improve your skin’s appearance without the downtime and discomfort usually required with traditional resurfacing. A typical patient would receive one to three SMARTXIDE treatments. During each treatment, the laser creates thousands of microscopic spots, almost like tiny “apple cores.” As only a percentage of the surface area is affected during each treatment, this technology combines the best of both worlds – the great and proven results of a traditional ablative laser with no pain and minimal downtime.

What conditions does the SmartXide CO2 laser treat?
It is a safe and effective way to treat sun damage, stubborn pigmentation, acne scars, rough texture, enlarged pores, fine lines and skin laxity on the face, neck, chest, arms and hands and surgical scars, with minimal downtime.
How many treatments will it take to see the best results?
Depending on the degree of damage to your skin and desired results, most patients in Philadelphia require 1 to 3 treatments, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart.
How much improvement can I expect?
Patients can expect to see improvement in the color, texture and quality of the skin within a week or two after the treatment; however, more significant improvement will be seen after 3 to 6 months and after several treatments are complete.
What does the SmartXide CO2 laser treatment feel like?
There is minimal discomfort during the procedure. A mild burning sensation may occur. A topical anesthetic is used. If we are working near the eye, for example in the lower lids to create tightening, then we would put protective eye shields in the eye as a precautionary measure to protect the eye itself.
What can I expect after the treatment?

Most people have some pinkness and some even a small amount of edema/swelling in the skin which settles in 24 to 48 hours. You usually can return to work in 5 days. Make-up can be worn day 6. We recommend regular application of Aquaphor (a moisturizer) during the day for the first 5-7 days as the skin may feel a little dry.

If you have always desired to rejuvenate your skin, you should consider this laser treatment. The results surpass any other laser technology on the market and blow away commonly known treatments like microdermabrasion and chemical peels.

Any body surface area and most skin types (light to dark olive/latin complexions) can be treated. The following is a list of conditions that can be treated with fractional resurfacing:

  • Wrinkles
  • Poor texture
  • Acne scars
  • Surgical scars
  • Large skin pores
  • Sun damage
  • Melasma
  • Uneven pigmentation
